Problem 1
Solution B is the new media solution. It is also the solution that I prefer because it allows a sort of collective knowledge which might end up being greater than the sum of its parts. It also allows for the project to grow beyond the original conceived notions and allows for “emergent phenomena”. Unlike the dictionary solution because everyone knows what to expect from a dictionary, they are dry and uninteresting in presentation. They also don’t have the same capacity to lead to something greater like a wiki would.
Problem 2
Solution B is the new media solution. It connects people who would otherwise be entirely separate into a new network, which actively recruits new members.I don’t know if I like the whole of the solution because it requires defacing the properties, if maybe it was changed to use “digital graffiti” and smart phones to view it. That way the environment can be documented while remaining intact, but also be actively changing.
Problem 3
Solution A is the new media solution, though both solutions have flaws. The first one allows for an interactive experience in that it could allow for multiple people to tailor their experience in a way the suits their learning styles and interested. I think it might be better if both ideas were combined though, creating more of a crowdsourced solution where others could edit different animations made by others.
Problem 4
Solution A is the new media solution, but in this case I prefer solution B. The first one connects a number of different networks of people that would otherwise be out of contact, and it uses the technology to suggest and idea that to me seems to reflect a lot of permaculture or energy descent ideals. However, solution A to me strays too far from the “norm” and I think in the middle of the day I wouldn’t be particularly enthusiastic about going digging in a garden, but that could be my own prejudices ruining an otherwise good idea. The second solution uses lots of current network infrastructure but is a one to many solution, it seems mainly like a non-individually customizable experience, even if the concept it self can be actively changed.
